Stocking Up
Groceries
Upseka will order groceries and the local alimentari will deliver to the house. You will need to pay in cash for groceries at the end of your stay.
If you want to pick up something yourself:
Micromercato, Via Raschi No. 9, Moltrasio
Tiny grocery store where you can pick up most of your essentials. Fantastic deli case with wonderful meats and cheese. Take the side path under the highway, then follow Via Roma a couple hundred meters to central Moltrasio. Micromercato is just up the steps behind Bar Centrale. (Say hi to owners Paolo and Monica.)
Granmercato, Via Papa Pio XI, Tavernola
By far the best supermarket in town. It’s just a short ten-minute drive from the villa. Big and bright, with everything you need, including good deli, meat, and fish departments. There’s also a large store called Bennet’s, but it’s confusing, crowded, depressing, and exhausting. So we stick with Granmercato.
Wine
Vini Affini, Via Regina, No. 18, Cernobbio
Say hi to Arturo. He attended school in Minnesota and speaks perfect English. Good selection and reasonable prices. We go there to pick up bulk supplies of local, inexpensive (but terrific) wine.
La Cantina S.A.S. Di Gariboldi Matteo & Company, Via XX Septembre, No. 21, Cernobbio
This is the place to go for a bigger selection of high-end wines (Brunello, Tignanello, Barolo, etc.).
